What is the Student Support Service TRiO Program?
Student Support Services TRiO program is designed to increase the academic performance and retention and graduation rates of 180 students. The program also focuses on assisting students in transferring to a four-year college.
Who is eligible for SSS - TRiO?
Participants must be:
• a US citizen.
• a first-generation college student, (parents do not have a bachelors degree), meet income guidelines, or have a documented learning or physical disability.
• Majoring in Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Pre-Business.
• Planning to transfer to a four- year institution.
What services are provided by the SSS - TRiO?
Tutoring
Students can take advantage of unlimited tutoring services Monday through Friday. The tutoring program focuses heavily on assisting students in completing their math requirements.
Academic Coaching
Each student is assigned to an SSS academic coach who will provide academic support from program entry to degree. Academic Coaches are also responsible for helping students transition from Cincinnati State to a four-year college.
Mid-Term Reports
Mid-Term reports are one of the tools utilized by the SSS staff to provide timely academic intervention. Reports are sent out during the 3rd week of each term. Faculty indicates the student’s attendance and academic performance and makes recommendations for improvement. Academic Coaches meet with students to discuss progress and provide academic support when necessary.
Learning Community (LC)
The Learning Community is sponsored by the SSS program and the Humanities and Sciences Division. The LC facilitates a successful connection to the college by providing an environment where students can easily make a transition from developmental coursework to coursework within their chosen major.
Personal, Career, Transfer Counseling
SSS provides confidential personal counseling, career and transfer counseling, crisis intervention, and referral services. Additionally, college transfer tours are provided throughout the year.
Financial Aid Assistance and TRiO Grant Aid
The SSS program hosts Financial Aid workshops throughout the year to assist students in the financial aid process. Additionally, scholarship information is made available to SSS participants throughout the year. The SSS program also awards has grant aid available to SSS participants who are actively participating in the program.
SSS Study Center and Computer Lab
The center is open Monday through Friday from 7:30-5:00. Academic and technical support is available.
Social-Cultural Events
SSS strives to foster an atmosphere where students from various backgrounds have opportunities to enjoy the diversity of Cincinnati State’s Campus as well as the community. The SSS program sponsors many free social and cultural activities throughout the year to enhance student’s experience and appreciation for diversity.
Professional and Peer Mentoring
The SSS Program provides additional academic support through its mentoring program. Instructor, professionals, and other student provide one-to-one-mentoring to SSS students.
Student Development Workshops
The program provides workshops to help develop the whole student. Areas of focus are time management, study skills, resume writing, financial aid, math anxiety, and more.
