Catalog course description:

This course is designed for personnel involved with responding to or managing a hazardous substance spill or release. The scope of this workshop applies to all elements (HAZMAT Response, Environmental Remediation & TSD Operations) of the HAZWOPER (HAZMAT) standard

Sequence of topics to be covered: 

• Explain OSHA, US EPA, US DOT, and NFPA regulations and updates
• Identify the methods and procedures for recognizing, evaluating, and controlling hazardous substances
• Perform chemical profiling of unknown substances
• Demonstrate use of air monitoring equipment
• Select and use respiratory protective equipment (APR & SCBA)
• Discuss the fundamentals of a basic decontamination and medical surveillance programs
• Explain the key elements of the Incident Command System
• Select and use appropriate chemical protective clothing

Course Outcomes:

After completing this course participants will be more current with the ever changing environmental and safety regulations.  In addition, the participant will possess the basic skills to operate within a structure HAZMAT (HAZWOPER) response.
