Program Description:
The Power Systems Engineering Technology program at Cincinnati State is designed to provide skills and competencies that will allow students to enter and advance professionally through technical and management positions with major employers in the power engineering community.
The power industry, like many others, will face the challenge of replacing an aging workforce. Industry sources estimate within the next 5 to10 years 50% of its workforce will be retiring from its ranks.
Advances in technology and the use of complex electrical control systems in nearly all electrically driven operations require technicians to have more in-depth knowledge of electrical components and their operation. The Power Engineers who monitor and maintain the quality, availability, reliability, transferability and safety of the systems we rely on daily are escaping us like grains of sand in an hour glass.
The current power grid in the United States faces many challenges. Increasing demand and use of electricity will require expansion of generation, transmission and distribution equipment. The need for competent electrical installation, testing and maintenance personnel will be paramount to the power industry’s success in assuring sustainability of the nation’s power grid.
