Program Description:
The Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology Renewable Energy Major was developed to address several related and growing industries in Ohio and Middle America. The industries such as; photovoltaic electric panel manufactures (formally known as solar panels), wind turbine manufactures, fuel cell manufactures, photovoltaic and wind turbine installation and service, energy efficiency companies/consultants. These new technologies are an application of traditional Electro-Mechanical devices and require most of the traditional foundation of an Electro-Mechanical student. Renewable Energy is more than the technologies mentioned above, but as a major those mentioned are served well and a graduate can choose from several pathways.
Graduates are prepared to:
- technician in a manufacturing facility, such as a wind turbine, photovoltaic or fuel cell manufacture
- installer and/or field technician for wind turbine, photovoltaic or fuel cell technology
- pursue a B.S. in Engineering Technologies such as Mechatronics or pursue a B.S. in Engineering such as Chemical Engineering for research and development
- energy efficiency technician, engineer or auditor to calculate and advise a business or manufacturer how to reduce energy consumption.
