To maintain lawful F-1 status a student must:
· Attend school full time every term and maintain full time enrollment throughout the term. Full time means a minimum of 12 credit hours per term.
· Keep your passport valid at all times. You must contact your home country embassy or consulate six (6) months before your passport expires to begin the renewal process. A listing of embassies and consulates is available in the International student office. Or go to http://www.embassy.org/ to get a listing.
· Keep a valid I-20 form at all times.
· The I-94 card is your arrival/departure record. It should be kept in your passport until you leave the U.S.A.
· Notify the International Student Office of address changes within ten (10) days of your move.
· Notify the International Student Office of activities such as, a change of major, transfer of schools, I-20 extensions.
· Contact the International Student Office before you travel outside the U.S.A.
· Annual vacation is in the summer only as long as you have maintained student status during the school year.
· F-1 students are allowed to work on campus, 20 hour a week limit, while school is in session. You must be maintaining your F-1 student status to be eligible for on campus employment.
· Never accept employment without receiving proper authorization.
· Curricular practical Training (CPT)
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations requires that you must have been lawfully enrolled full-time for one full academic year before you can participate in the co-op program. Under the Cincinnati State cooperative education program, international students with F-1 Visa status are permitted to co-op. (work: this employment will be directly related to your field of study.) However a co-op is not guaranteed by the College for every student.
· File an annual tax return with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The deadline for filling is April 15 of each year. The forms are available in the International Student Office each year at the beginning of February.
SEVIS FEE
• Effective September 1, 2004 a new U.S Department of Homeland Security rule went into effect. This rule requires F, M, and J visa applicants to pay a one time fee of $100 prior to applying for your student visa. This fee will supplement the administration and maintenance costs of the Student Exchange Information System (SEVIS).
• The SEVIS fee can be paid to the Department of Homeland Security. It can be paid by mail, on line, or Western Union. It can be paid by you or a third party, inside or outside the USA. The fee must accompany form I-901.
• The procedure for filing form I-901 and further detailed information can be found at:

• Make sure you pay the fee as soon as you receive your I-20 form.
