The Safety and Security Management program prepares students for entry-level or advanced management position in safety and security industries. The program integrates several certification specifically designed to meet the needs of today’s safety and security organization.
The value-added nature of the degree program benefits both the student as well as the region in providing better educated employees with the necessary skills to rise upward rapidly within their career tracks and providing future leaders for the communities of the Tri-State region.
The curriculum includes courses in basic law, regulations and compliance, hazardous materials, emergency response, domestic and international terrorism, homeland security management, risk management and disaster preparedness.
Graduates will be prepared to work within the new and ever-changing local, state and federal regulations. Employers need to find workers with these skills and knowledge.
The program includes majors in the five following areas:
· Healthcare Leadership
· Leadership
· Environmental Safety and Security
· Construction Safety
· Hazardous Material Incident
Each of the majors targets a specific Safety and Security industry, but may also be used to help enhance upward mobility for career professionals.
The Safety and Security Management program was developed in conjunction with local industry representatives to assure that the comprehensive listing of requirements was identified and addressed. The student who completes this curriculum will benefit by receiving training and certification relevant to their particular career while at the same time completing requirements for a degree.
Most of the core courses will be available online, giving working professionals the flexibility to continue working while earning their degree.
Certifications
The Safety and Security curriculum ensures that graduates are prepared to help their agencies meet any situation presented and learn how to respond with multi-agencies.
Students receive certification or eligibility for certification in the following areas:
• National Incident Management System (NIMS)
• Incident Command System (CIS)
• HAZWOPER
• First Responder, EMT Basic
• American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS)
• International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety Certifications
Prerequisites
• COMPASS scores indicating no need for developmental work (or completion of identified courses) and readiness for MAT 1151
• High school or college biology and chemistry (see advisor for details)
• Completion of FYE 9002
• A Cincinnati State cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
