Computer Graphics

 

 

 

Graphic Design (GRD) students begin their program with emphasis on building skills in two-dimensional (2-D) art  and design, both traditional and computer-based, using industry-standard software products. Later in the program, students focus on 3-D computer animation.

 

Currently a significant number of courses required for the degree are scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Some of the required courses also are offered in the evening or on weekends. 

 

Graduates will have skills

in the following areas:

• Digital creation of original art

• 2-D vector-based and raster-based illustration and composition

• 3-D modeling, texturing, lighting, and animation

• Use of 2-D and 3-D software applications including Photoshop, Illustrator, and Maya

• Use of Web languages and tools such as HTML and Flash

• Basic video shooting, digitizing, and post-processing

 

Job Titles for Graduates:

Graphic Designer

3-D Artist

Texture Artist

Production Artist

Multimedia Designer

Web Graphics Designer

 

Transfer Prospects:

Graduates of the GRD program who wish to continue their education in baccalaureate programs in Digital Media, Multimedia, 3-D Animation, or other related areas should be able to make this transition easily. Formal articulation agreements with some four-year institutions are anticipated in the future.

Co-op Salaries:

$8.00-$12.00/hour.

 

Employment Outlook:

Good, although competition for employment is growing. Opportunities are best for designers with skills in web-based and multimedia as well as print communication.

 

Graduate Salary Projections:

$28,000-$35,000
