Evaluating Internet
Sources

Anyone can put anything on the Internet. Therefore it is important that you ask yourself a few questions when you are reading websites.

Who wrote this page? You might want to see who registered the domain name.

Do they know what they are talking about?

Is it selling something?

Does the website have a bias? (The Democratic Party and the Republican Party will have different opinions about how well President Bush is doing. Sometimes it is helpful to check the domain address to see who is responsible for the website.)

Is the reading level appropriate? (Are you trying to do your college homework with information intended for grade school students? Are you trying to help your child with information only a professional could understand?)

Many libraries have excellent guides to evaluating information found on the internet
