Trustees approve proposal to acquire small parcel of property
During Tuesday’s meeting, the Board of Trustees unanimously approved a proposal to acquire a small parcel of property at 3647 Central Parkway, across from the ATLC, that now houses a printing operation. Dan Cayse, Vice President for Entrepreneurial Development, said the transaction is subject to a number of contingencies, including approval by the State Controlling Board. He also noted the owner of the property has indicated a desire to phase out his business at that location.
At the meeting, trustees were also introduced to Nancy (“Nan’’) Cahall, the College’s new Director of Government and Community Affairs. Her prior experience includes work on the staff of U.S. Sen. George Voinovich, U.S. Rep. (now U.S. Sen.) Rob Portman and the Homebuilders Association of Greater Cincinnati.
President Owens also gave a brief update on the status of the Middletown project, saying the College is now gathering demographic and financial projections from independent professional firms while continuing talks with the city. Representatives of the Faculty Senate are scheduled to tour the proposed site today.
Dr. Owens also announced that Cincinnati State will launch an ArtsWave fund drive next Monday. Dr. Owens and Paul Davis will co-chair the ArtsWave fund drive.
The personal touch makes a difference
President Owens reports that fund-raising for the College is going well, at events large and small. Following a recent speech at a Huff Realty event, for example, Dr. Owens was presented a check for $3,000. An appearance by Dr. Owens before a group associated with a Chaine des Rôtisseurs event at the College netted $3,000, and a subsequent speech before participants in the same organization generated an additional $5,000. President Owens noted that he also gave a talk to a church group that netted $100 for the college.
That’s how to build our endowment – one step, one gift, one scholarship at a time. If we all do our part, “me being the first,” as the saying goes, we’ll get there.
ITS will begin replacing older PCs this week
The College will be replacing more than 400 PCs that are more than three years old. (Actual units being replaced are the MPC ClientPro 375 and MPC ClientPro 385). This particular replacement cycle is challenging for ITS, because half are the PCs that reside on many of the first floor staff desktops which means each machine must be handled individually. The other half are PCs in classrooms which means switching out machines in the middle of a term.
Classroom/Lab PCs
The upgrade project for computers in several classrooms/labs will begin this Friday, March 25.
Please remind all students to save their data to their Z:drive, Surge SkyDrive or USB flash drive instead of the local hard drive of the computer. Once the computer is replaced, we will not be able to recover any data stored locally.
List of classrooms/labs scheduled for upgrade:

Staff/Faculty PCs
For us to return the old PCs in the fastest possible time, we must process about 20 machines daily. The upgrade project for staff/faculty computers will begin March 28 and continue through April 4.
If your current computer is a MPC ClientPro 375 or MPC ClientPro 385, this is what you should do to prepare for the upgrade:

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. As we work through the project, we'll keep you informed of our progress.
