The Shared Community Strength Council is asking also that you consider the proposition that reaching out to the wider community is more important than ever in these trying times. In this spirit, the Shared Community Council will be collecting non-perishable food and medical items to be donated to those in need. Our support this term will go to the Earthquake and Tsunami Effort through Matthew 25 Ministries. There will also be a cash jar available.

Chefs with MCI connections are competing in culinary equivalent of NCAA tournament
Chef Todd Kelly, Chef Chris Ropp CEC, and Chef Greg Skibinski CEC are competing in Columbus for the right to go on to the Chef of the Year Final Four in Dallas in July of this year. All these fine chefs have both a strong co-op and professional relationships with the Midwest Culinary Institute. So let's cheer them on and hope that one of these chefs will represent the North East Region at the national Chef of the Year competition in Dallas.

Cincinnati State women close out tournament with 90-81 victory
Cincinnati State won the consolation side of the 2011 NJCAA Women’s Division II Championship in a hard-fought game Saturday against the Kalamazoo (Mich.) Valley Tigers.
The Lady Surge came away with a 90-81 victory to seal their standing as the No. 7 team in NJCAA Div. II.
Shardai Morrison-Fountain was named to the 2011 All Tournament Team.
It marked the fourth straight win for the Lady Surge in the tournament, and also the best performance ever by a Cincinnati State team since the College entered Div. II in the National Junior College Athletic Association.
This also marks the fourth Cincinnati State team to play in the national tournament of their league over the past year. In 2010 the men’s basketball team, men’s golf and men’s soccer all accomplished the same feat.
Saturday’s game against Kalamazoo was a see-saw affair, marked by 23 lead changes and 13 ties. Shardai Morrison-Fountain led the scoring for Cincinnati State with 23 points, followed by Javonna Saddler with 19, Asia Dillingham with 12 and Kara McLemore with 10.
Cincinnati State Head Coach Theresa Check had put together a brutal early schedule in the pre-season and the start of the regular season, which helped toughen her team for the rest of the year. The upshot: A team that left the Cincinnati State campus on March 13 ranked No. 13 in the nation came home from the national tournament in East Peoria, Ill., ranked No. 7.
In short, another marvelous performance by a Cincinnati State athletic team. Congratulations!
Board of Trustees are scheduled to meet Tuesday
The Cincinnati State Board of Trustees will meet in regular session at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 22 in the Conference Center.
