Academic teams will square off April 30 at Cincinnati State
April 8, 2011
Academic teams from 16 high schools will compete Saturday, April 30 at Cincinnati State in the Southwest Regional of the 2011 Ohio Academic Competition.
The event at Cincinnati State is one of six regional competitions that will be taking place across Ohio on April 30. The top two finishers from each regional will move on to the state finals in May.
The 16 teams competing April 30 represent the top performers from the many academic leagues competing in the southwestern part of the state. For the past four months students have been matching wits in a series of weekly contests and tournaments in one-on-one, question/answer competitions.
In sessions similar to the television game show quizzes of yore, students on these academic teams compete to see who can answer questions fastest and most accurately. The questions asked of the students cover such topics as history, literature, science, history, art, mathematics and other traditional high school academic areas.
The schools competing in the Southwest Regional on April 30 are:
• Amelia High School
• Batavia High School
• Centerville High School
• Chaminade-Julienne High School
• Fenwick High School
• Lakota East High School
• Lakota West High School
• Little Miami High School
• Madeira High School
• Moeller High School
• St. Xavier High School
• Summit Country Day School
• Sycamore High School
• Talawanda High School
• Turpin High School
• Walnut Hills High School
Matches will start at 9 a.m. The final rounds are expected to start around noon and will probably last until about 2:30 p.m.
The tournament is double-elimination and all the matches will be held in classrooms on the third floor of the Main Building. (Parking for marked news media vehicles will be available directly in front of the building.)
The communications center for the regional competition will be in Room 376. The contact is Edward Sunderhaus, 513.907.6796 (cell).
