Cincinnati State students win regional ADDY awards
April 15, 2009
Students from Cincinnati State Technical and Community College have won a gold medal and three silver medals in a regional ADDY® competition covering Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.
The gold medal was one of four presented to student contestants in the region. It was awarded in the Interactive Media category, for a website devoted to the Copperleaf Disc Golf Course on the Cincinnati State campus in Clifton. In addition to presenting the course layout and features, the display provided information about the arboretum on the front lawn of the campus where the course is located.
The site was designed by Mike Wolfram, a graphic design major who is about to graduate from Cincinnati State, and Paul Ikeler, who has already graduated and taken a position in San Diego, Calif.
Their entry will now be entered in the American Advertising Federation’s national ADDY contest. Winners will be announced in early June during the AAF National Conference in Washington, D.C.
The three silver medal entries from Cincinnati State students are also eligible for consideration in the national contest. Those awards were for:
- A television spot prepared on behalf of the Cincinnati USA Music Heritage Foundation by students Ben Dawson, Andy Meiners and Courtney Moore.
- A promotional package, including a website and video clip, prepared by graphic design students Jake Siemer and Daisuke Fukui on behalf of Toyota Systems Support Center. The package was developed as part of a capstone project.
- A “Rock the Vote’’ bus wrap, developed by Zak Lay as a class project.
The ADDY Awards program, which attracts more than 60,000 entries annually, is the largest advertising industry competition in the world. The competition is run by the non-profit American Advertising Federation through its 200 member clubs in 15 districts.
In District 5, which takes in nine media markets in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, 39 gold medals – including the four to college student teams – were awarded this year. Judges also awarded 101 Silver ADDYs; 14 went to college teams.
