Cincinnati State men’s basketball team upsets top seed in NJCAA tournament

The Cincinnati State men’s basketball Surge upset top-seeded Monroe Community College (Rochester, N.Y.) Monday in the opening round of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Tournament in Danville, Illinois.
The 83-72 victory over Monroe means Cincinnati State will advance to the field of eight teams on Wednesday.
The Surge’s Quentin Williford led all scorers with 25 points, Rayshawn Goins contributed 18 points and 12 rebounds, while James Millen had 14 points.
The Surge will now play Brown Mackie College on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Cincinnati State made it to the NJCAA tournament in Danville by winning the District 10 regional tournament and claiming the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference regular season title with an 11-3 conference record and a 22-8 overall record. Its head coach is Andre Tate, a former player for the University of Cincinnati.
