Cincinnati State students surge to raise money for scholarships

October 17, 2008

Students and supporters of Cincinnati State Technical and Community College will pound the pavement in Clifton’s Gaslight District Saturday (Oct. 18) to raise money for scholarships.

The Surge5K, a 3.1-mile run/walk, will get underway at 9 a.m. from the Advanced Technology and Learning Center at Cincinnati State’s campus. The course will take participants up McAlpin Avenue to Clifton Avenue, south to Resor Avenue and back to McAlpin before crossing Ludlow and returning to campus.

Advance registration is $20 ($15 for Cincinnati State students) and includes a T-shirt and participation in a post-race party. Registration is available through www.GetMeRegistered.com.

Same-day registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. and cost $25 per person ($20 for Cincinnati State students); T-shirts will be available as long as supplies last.

Free parking will be available in the Central Parkway Garage.

All students who participate in the race will be entered in a drawing for one free class and one of five parking passes. Other prizes will be awarded to top men and women finishers in the run and walk categories in three age brackets: 18 and under, 19-59 and 60 and over.

A free Kids Run after the main race is also scheduled; it will feature treats for all finishers.

Cincinnati State offers more than 75 associate degree programs and more than 40 certificate programs in business technologies, culinary arts, health and public safety, engineering technologies, humanity and sciences and information technologies.  Nearly 14,000 students are enrolled annually in credit and non-credit classes.
