Cincinnati State students win 7 of 15 student ADDY Awards

February 24, 2010

Students from Cincinnati State’s Multimedia Information Design (MID) programs won seven of the 15 student awards presented in the 2010 ADDY® Award competition sponsored by the Cincinnati Ad Club.

Cincinnati State students won Best of Show, two Gold ADDYs, and four Silver ADDYs during ceremonies Feb. 20.

Cincinnati State students have won the Best of Show award in the local competition in three of the last four years.

The student Best of Show award and a Gold ADDY went to Multimedia & Web Design major George (Lee) Jones for a poster about the Bodoni typeface. The poster was created in a graphic design class at the College.

Jones also won a Silver ADDY for a website he created for Vision Trail, a non-profit organization that promotes the arts and culture of Appalachia. The website was created as part of the Early Fall 2009 capstone project class required for all MID students. Jones, a Springdale resident, graduated from Cincinnati State in November 2009.
Awards to other Cincinnati State students included:

  • Lorelei Buescher, a Newport resident who is earning degrees in Graphic Design and Multimedia & Web Design, won a Gold ADDY for a beverage packaging project created in a graphic design class. Buescher also won two Silver ADDYs, for a packaging project and a book cover project. Both winning entries were created in classes at the College.
  • Russell J. Singleton, an August 2009 graduate of the Graphic Design program, won a Silver ADDY for a logo created for the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. This work was completed as part of the Spring 2009 Capstone Project class. Singleton resides in Delhi.

Jones and Singleton each won Silver ADDY awards in the 2009 competition.

This year’s competition also saw a recent graduate of the Cincinnati State Audio/Video Production program win a Silver ADDY in the professional competition. Caleb Halter was the designer and animator for a video sales presentation for Ecco shoes created by Lightborne, where he has been employed since his graduation in 2009. Halter was part of a Lightborne team that won a Gold ADDY in the 2009 professional competition.

Student Gold ADDY award winners at the local competition are automatically entered in District competition with students from colleges and universities in Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia. Silver award winners may also compete at the district level if they wish.

With more than 60,000 entries annually from professionals and students, the ADDY Awards are the world's largest advertising competition. The American Advertising Federation, a not-for-profit industry association, conducts the ADDY Awards through its 200 member advertising clubs and 15 districts. It is the only creative awards program administered by the advertising industry for the industry.
