Cincinnati State to host ‘Honors Experience’ open houses

November 25, 2008

Cincinnati State prides itself on the wealth of educational offerings it provides in fields ranging from the culinary arts to environmental engineering technologies to health care.

The College recognizes that such offerings are attracting students who could write their own tickets anywhere. That’s part of the reason it has developed a program – backed by scholarships – for superior students who are seeking additional academic enrichment during their time at Cincinnati State.

The program, known as the ‘’Honors Experience,’’ will be explained to interested high school students and potential transfer students during open houses Dec. 10, 2008 and Jan. 22, 2009.

The Honors Experience touches nearly all aspects of life at Cincinnati State. Students who participate in the Honors Experience may, for example:

  • Benefit from priority registration when signing up for classes
  • Compete for one of the six full academic merit scholarships (which include tuition, books and fees) that are awarded each year to incoming high school students accepted into the Honors program
  • Enroll in Honors courses, including English composition, psychology, public speaking, microeconomics, anatomy and physiology, business law, critical thinking, and marketing
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary Honors Colloquiums
  • Supplement their studies with social and cultural activities on campus and in the Greater Cincinnati community
  • Work – or relax! - on campus in the Honors Study Room

Minimum requirements for admission to the Honors Experience include an ACT score of 25, an SAT score of 1140, a high school GPA of 3.25 and a class rank in the top 20 percent.

The Dec. 10 and Jan. 22 Honors Experience Open Houses will be held on the main campus of Cincinnati State. Both sessions will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. In addition to learning about the Honors Experience, guests will have the opportunity to meet current Honors students, along with faculty members who are teaching honors courses. Reservations are not required.
