Cincinnati State to host “Earth Jam’’ on April 29

April 26, 2010

Cincinnati State Technical and Community College is continuing its environmentally-themed activities this month with an “Earth Jam’’ on April 29.

The Earth Jam – sponsored for the 12th straight year by Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing, North America, Inc. – will run from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Cincinnati State’s main campus.

Cincinnati State Environmental Engineering Technology faculty, working with industry representatives and members of the campus Environmental Club, will organize display booths and conduct hands-on activities that focus on local environmental issues and solutions.

The event will also feature:

  • Music by the Sunstroked Serenade.
  • A free plant from the Environmental Club’s booth for persons wearing one of this year’s Cincinnati State Earth Day T-shirts. (The Horticulture Club will be selling plants at this event as well.)
  • Food and soft drinks available for purchase
  • Games, prizes and fun

The event will be held outdoors in the courtyard of the Advanced Technology & Learning Center (indoors in the lobbies and lounges of the ATLC if it rains).

Industry partners include the Fernald Preserve; Ohio E.P.A.; Southwest Ohio Water Environment Association (SWOWEA); Hamilton County Department of Environmental Services; Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing, North America, Inc. (headquartered in Erlanger, Ky.); Rumpke Recycling; Hamilton County Soil & Water Conservation District; and the Alliance for Chemical Safety.

Earlier this month Cincinnati State hosted a “Going Green Makes Cents’’ day for high school students and teachers featuring hands-on activities, demonstrations and lectures involving environmental issues and their economic implications.

For more information about the April 29 Earth Jam event please contact environmental engineering technology faculty members Dr. Ann Gunkel at 513.569.1783 or Ann Fallon at 513.569.1750.
