Cincinnati State will promote renewable energy at Kids Expo
June 22, 2011
Cincinnati State will be among the many exhibitors at the 2011 “Kids Outdoor Adventure Expo” Thursday, June 23 at Coney Island.
The Kids Outdoor Adventure Expo, a prelude to the upcoming Paddlefest on the Ohio River, is a volunteer effort designed to introduce children to water sports, water safety, natural science, environmental awareness and an appreciation of Greater Cincinnati’s waterways.
The Cincinnati State booths, organized by Larry Feist, chair of the renewable energy program at the College, will feature hands-on activities designed to introduce students to different aspects of renewable energy. One, for example, features a working windmill. Another has a solar array that lights different types of light bulbs. Another demonstrates the use of a kilowatt meter to measure electrical energy consumption.
Organizers report that more than 3,000 children are registered for the Kids Outdoor Adventure Expo; most are coming from youth groups, summer school programs, the Cincinnati Recreation Commission and organizations throughout the Tri-State.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that Feist and other volunteers from Cincinnati State have participated in the Kids Expo.
