July 27, 2010
Summer term enrollment at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College is up 18 percent over the same period a year ago.
As of the close of the official reporting period for the Summer 2010 Term, enrollment stood at 7,818.
Last year at this time, Cincinnati State had 6,608 students.
In the past five years, summer enrollment has increased by 51 percent and the number of credit hours taken has grown by 60 percent, according to Anne Foster, Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness.
Over the past 12 months, overall full-time equivalent enrollment at Cincinnati State has risen 26 percent.
“We are acutely aware of how important Cincinnati State is in this economy,’’ said Dr. John Henderson, interim president of the College. “Our focus is job readiness and providing good value and a high quality education. We will continue to do our best to meet the demand.’’
The Division of Health and Public Safety, which takes in Cincinnati State’s nursing programs, accounted for both the largest enrollment (2,802 students) and the greatest growth over last summer (31.5 percent).
Other divisions showing significant enrollment growth were the Center for Innovative Technologies, up 20 percent; Humanities and Sciences, up 15 percent; and Business Technologies, up 11 percent.
Cincinnati State operates on an academic calendar based on five terms (each about nine and a half weeks in length), rather than the quarters or semesters found at most colleges and universities. It is planning to convert to a semester system in 2012.
