July 1, 2011
Jake Jones, a member of the nationally-ranked Cincinnati State men's soccer team the past two years, was named today (Thursday, June 30) as a winner of a 2011 Academic Student-Athlete Award by the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Jones, who graduated Magna Cum Laude earlier this month from Cincinnati State, helped lead the Surge to the NJCAA Finals this past season. The team finished second in the national tournament.
Jones is a graduate of Glen Este High School, where he played on the varsity soccer team as a freshman and for most of his career was a team leader in goals and assists. On his club team, the CSA Magic, he was a starting outside midfielder.
In his two years at Cincinnati State, Jones was named to the First Team of the Ohio Community College Athletic Association in 2009 and again in 2010. He was also a member of the Honors Experience at Cincinnati State, and was recently awarded the Academic Achievement Award for Men’s Soccer at the college’s 2011 Athletic Awards Banquet. He graduated with an Associate's Degree in Science, and plans to continue his studies at a four-year institution with aspirations of becoming a physical therapist.
