Classroom will be focus of Cincinnati State inauguration events

September 19, 2011

The classroom will be the focus of activities surrounding the inauguration of Dr. O’dell M. Owens as the fifth president of Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

Events are planned in Harrison, Middletown and at the main campus in Clifton from Wednesday, Sept. 21 through Friday, Sept. 23. The inauguration itself will take place from 9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. in the gymnasium at the main campus.

Aside from the investiture, the signature event is a reception designed to raise funds for scholarships and promote the range of Cincinnati State’s academic offerings. Titled “1 Life, 12 Classrooms’’ and supported by presenting sponsor US Bank, it will be held from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23 in a variety of locations in the Advanced Technology & Learning Center and the Health Professions Building.

As with Cincinnati State’s well-known “1 Night, 12 Kitchens” events, guests at “1 Life, 12 Classrooms” will be treated to a variety of culinary treats from the Midwest Culinary Institute. On this night, however, the kitchens at MCI will be just one of the stops on a tour that will showcase programs from all of the College’s academic divisions (Business Technologies, Center for Innovative Technologies, Health and Public Safety and Humanities and Sciences).

The “1 Life, 12 Classrooms” tours will showcase such areas as:

Energy and Environment
Culinary Arts
Public Speaking
Audio/Video Production and Graphic Design
Public Safety – Fire/EMS
Patient Care Professions
Fine Arts & Music
Mechanical Engineering Technologies
Languages (including Interpreter Training/Sign Language and Foreign Languages)
Technology in Health Care and Life Science
Pastry Arts
Entrepreneurial Certificate Program

There will also be displays highlighting Early Childhood Care and Education; Enrollment and Student Development; Cincinnati State Archives; Honors Experience; Off Campus Programs; Workforce Development Center; Automotive Service Management Program; and Horticulture/Landscaping.

Also part of the inaugural celebration:

• A reception Wednesday, Sept. 21 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. hosted by Cincinnati State Trustee Robert McKenna at the Cincinnati State West Campus (the former Harrison Airport) for business leaders and educators.
• A Convocation and Student Picnic Wednesday, Sept. 21 from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
• A fund-raising reception from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22 in Middletown at a private residence.

Tickets for 1 Life, 12 Classrooms are $125 each. Host level tickets are also available for $150 and Friend level tickets for $250. Net proceeds from the event will be earmarked for student scholarships.
