College will remain open during strike
September 27, 2011
The Board of Trustees and College Administration have been working to ensure that classes continue as seamlessly as possible during the strike.
The Board is committed to excellent faculty, which includes full-time and adjunct instructors. Out of the total pool of 784 full-time and adjunct faculty members, approximately 200 - the full-time faculty represented by the American Association of University Professors - have chosen to go on strike. The rest of Cincinnati State’s faculty will remain on the job, teaching in classrooms. Nothing will change in those classes.
Subject matter experts are teaching many of the classes that were taught by striking faculty members. In some cases deans, associate deans and administrators are in the classrooms. It has become apparent that some striking faculty members planned ahead and prepared detailed plans for course work to continue. Instructors will follow that coursework and syllabus as outlined.
Some courses do require very technical expertise and certifications. Due to health, safety and accreditation considerations, these courses will be managed by administrative personnel until fully-qualified replacements can be identified.
The path to graduation should not be affected by the faculty strike as long as students continue to come to class and follow the instructions given to them by the teachers and administrators assigned to their classes.
College administrators are working extended hours to work through any issues that may arise. In the meantime:
- The Writing Center and The Success Center Main and Annex are open during their regular operational hours, which includes days, evenings and weekends to support students and help them stay on track with course assignments.
- All student service areas including the Advising and Counseling Center, Admission, Financial Aid, Office of the Registrar, Student Activities, Veterans Affairs, International Student Services, Disability Services, and College Access programs are open and continue serving students during their regular business hours. The Division of Enrollment and Student Development has taken the appropriate measures to ensure that our students continue to receive the same high level of service.
- Students can go to the web for services and business hours: http://www.cincinnatistate.edu/visitors-gateway/current-students
- Food service and campus security are continuing uninterrupted.
