Cowboy Day at Cincinnati State
May 12, 2009
Brian Hamblin, a Cincinnati State student who works on the IT Help Desk, figured he had a leg up on the competition when it came to riding the mechanical bull on Country/Western Day.
After all, Hamblin rode the real things for about 10 years. A friend, you see, was involved with the rodeo circuit, and took Hamblin up to Richmond, Ind. one fine day to see for himself what it was all about. Hamblin was hooked.
Real bulls tend to pivot on their front legs and raise their hind legs off the ground in a furious effort to throw their rider. What Hamblin discovered, to his chagrin, was that the operators of this mechanical bull had set the device to pivot off the rear of the animal. It made for an entertaining spectacle – and that, really, was the point of the event.
Country/Western Day also featured free barbeque, cornhole, carriage rides and the chance to dress up in 19th century costumes and pose for photos.
The event was one of several sponsored this term by Student Activities.
