Gov. Ted Strickland reappoints three trustees

Gov. Ted Strickland has reappointed three individuals to serve on the board of trustees of Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

Named to fresh six-year terms on the nine-member board were:

Cathy Crain, a retired investment counselor and a well-known arts and civic volunteer in Greater Cincinnati. She was first appointed to the Cincinnati State board in 2009 to fill an unexpired term.

Crain is a retired vice president of the investment firm Scudder, Stevens & Clark, and from 1980-1994 held positions at National City Bank Corp. that included vice president of investments and chairman of charitable investments. She currently serves as President of the Cincinnati Parks Foundation, Chairman of the Cincinnati Opera Board of Trustees, and as a board member of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, the Hamilton County Hospital Commission and the WorldWatch Institute in Washington, D.C.

Crain holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; a master’s degree in environmental studies from Cleveland State University and a law degree from the University of Akron.

Laurie Nippert Leonard, an award-winning real estate professional and community volunteer. She was first appointed to the Cincinnati State board in 2004, and has served as elected board secretary since 2006. 

She is a Senior Sales Vice President for Comey & Shepherd Realtors, licensed in Ohio and Kentucky, and has been a full-time residential specialist since 1987. She holds numerous professional designations and was selected by the past three mayors to serve as a Real Estate Ambassador for the City of Cincinnati. She is an elected Director of the Cincinnati Area Board of Realtors and also serves as a Director of the Ohio Association of Realtors.

Named a Cincinnati Enquirer Woman of the Year in 2005, CABR Realtor of the Year in 2007 and a participant in Cincinnati’s One Hundred Wise Women program in 2010, Leonard is also a member of the Visiting Nurse Association Board and received its Caring Award in 2007. She is also a member of Leadership Cincinnati Class XXIX, Cincinnati Rotary and The Junior League of Cincinnati. She was 2008 President of the Civic Garden Center of Greater Cincinnati and has served on the boards of the Cincinnati Horticultural Society and For Children 4C. She is a graduate of Rollins College.

Michael Oestreicher, an attorney who currently serves as chairman of Cincinnati State’s Board of Trustees. He was first appointed to the board in 2004.

Oestreicher is a partner at Thompson Hine LLP, a business law firm with approximately 400 lawyers. He is a former member of the firm's executive committee, is the former partner-in-charge of the firm's Cincinnati office, and is a member of its Corporate Transactions & Securities and International Trade & Customs practice groups. Oestreicher counsels companies with domestic and international transactional activities, including trade and policy issues and domestic and international commercial transactions. In February, 2006 Oestreicher was appointed to President Bush’s Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations.

A graduate of Miami University and the Boston University School of Law, Oestreicher is a past president of the Isaac M. Wise Temple; an emeritus trustee of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and a member of the board of directors of Jewish Cemeteries of Greater Cincinnati Inc.

Trustees at Ohio’s technical and community colleges serve without compensation.
