Honors Experience participants recognized

Officials at Cincinnati State recently hosted a reception to recognize graduates of its honors program and welcome new participants.

The program featured an address by Dr. Julie Pultinas. A 2004 graduate of the Honors Experience at Cincinnati State, Julie recently earned her M.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

The Honors Experience touches nearly all aspects of life at Cincinnati State. Students who participate in the Honors Experience may, for example:

  • Benefit from priority registration when signing up for classes.
  • Enroll in Honors courses, including English composition, psychology, public speaking, microeconomics, anatomy and physiology, business law, critical thinking, and marketing.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary Honors Colloquiums.
  • Supplement their studies with social and cultural activities on campus and in the Greater Cincinnati community.
    Minimum requirements for admission to the Honors Experience include an ACT score of 25, an SAT score of 1140, a high school GPA of 3.25 and a class rank in the top 20 percent.
     

Arriving students admitted into the Honors Experience program may also compete for one of the six academic merit scholarships (which include tuition, books and fees) that are awarded each year to incoming high school students.

This year Cincinnati State awarded Honors Experience scholarships to:

  • Michael Brizzi, Loveland (Loveland High School), who plans to pursue an associate of arts degree through the Division of Humanities and Sciences.
  • Kelsey Forsee, Williamsburg, Ohio (Bethel-Tate High School), who plans to pursue a degree in multi-media from Cincinnati State’s Center for Innovative Technologies.
  • Jacob Jones, Mount Carmel (Glen Este High School), who plans to pursue an associate of science degree through the Division of Humanities and Sciences.
  • Alyssa Roll, Hamilton, (Lakota West High School), who plans to major in graphic design through the Center for Innovative Technologies.
  • Martha Tiffany, Mack, (Walnut Hills High School), who plans to major in culinary arts through a dual admission program with Cincinnati State’s Midwest Culinary Institute and the University of Cincinnati.
  • Anthony Webb, New Richmond, (Grant Career Center, Bethel), who plans to major in mechanical engineering technologies.
     

Also recognized at the ceremony were 2009 Honors Scholar graduates Megan Lee Scott, Mary Conner, Sarah Leland and Michael Herrle and 2009 Honors Experience graduates Christopher Haun, Megan Barsch, Russell Hayden, Anna Hayes, Kara J. Freeman and Cara M. Janson.
