Look for seas of Cincinnati State green in an ocean of red May 1
April 26, 2011
There will be seas of green in several sections of Great American Ball Park on May 1, thanks to supporters of Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.
Students, faculty, staff and friends of the college bought nearly 1,300 tickets as part of a promotion that was aimed at not only joining together for a little fun off campus, but also ensuring that Cincinnati State’s new president, Dr. O’dell M. Owens, would have the honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. (The 2011 event represents a marked increase from last year’s Cincinnati State Day at the Reds, which drew about 75 participants.)
Joining Dr. Owens on the field May 1 as his catcher will be the Cincinnati State mascot, a bolt of lightning known as the Surge.
Also on hand to represent Cincinnati State at the 4:10 p.m. game against the Florida Marlins will be a trio – two staff members and a student – who will sing the National Anthem.
Last week, two chefs from Cincinnati State’s culinary program, Mike Van Fleet and Mo Thie, developed a Cincinnati Reds signature cupcake for sale at campus’ retail bakery. They also sent a few to the Reds’ top brass.
Most of the Cincinnati State contingent will be wearing green t-shirts with the school’s colors (and, of course, Reds hats) to mark the occasion.
