Regional Dropout Summit will be held Thursday, June 25
June 23, 2009
“Dropouts: They’re Our Business.’’
That’s the theme of a day-long summit scheduled Thursday, June 25 on the campus of Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.
The summit has been organized by more than two dozen organizations and corporations active in Greater Cincinnati. Over 300 people are expected to attend in an effort to develop plans to keep students in school and help reclaim those who have dropped out.
The featured speaker is Dr. Robert Balfanz, a Johns Hopkins University researcher and co-author of a new national report on dropouts. The program also features a bevy of local experts – high school students who are participating in summer programs at Cincinnati State.
The June 25 summit is one in a national series sponsored by the America’s Promise Alliance, a non-profit organization founded by former Secretary of State Colin Powell. The aim is to help communities marshal resources to address dropout-related problems and craft an action plan that uniquely responds to local conditions.
Following a CEO Breakfast at 8 a.m., the Dropout Summit will start at 10 a.m. with a welcome from Cincinnati State President John Henderson. The event is scheduled to conclude by 3 p.m.
