Scholarship Golf Outing is doubly important this year
August 14, 2009
Friends of Cincinnati State will tee up Monday, Sept. 21 at the Western Hills Country Club for one of the College’s most important fund-raising events of the year.
In years past such golf outings have raised $50,000 or more toward scholarships for Cincinnati State students. Each year more than 50 students receive scholarships funded by the event.
The 2009 Scholarship Golf Classic is unusually important, for at least two reasons:
• It is part of “Founders Week,’’ an extended celebration of the 40th anniversary of Cincinnati State’s charter as a public college.
• Although Cincinnati State’s enrollment is up substantially, Ohio’s budget crisis has led to cuts in state-funded student financial aid. That means it’s more important than ever for the College to raise funds to help students who need assistance.
In addition to fees from golfers who are participating in the outing, the Scholarship Golf Classic raises funds through sponsorships and a silent auction.
Because the golfers’ fees cover all overhead costs for the event, all sponsorship revenues go directly toward scholarships and are thus fully tax deductible. Sponsorship opportunities are still available, as are a limited number of slots for those who wish to play in the Golf Classic.
