Sports banquet recognizes student athletes

Heather Hassloch, the star center for the Lady Surge, was honored with the President’s Award during the inaugural all-sports banquet at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

The President’s Award was but one of those presented Saturday, May 16 to athletes who represented Cincinnati State during the 2008-09 seasons in men’s and women’s basketball, soccer and in golf.

The keynote speaker at the banquet was Wayne “Box’’ Miller, a Cincinnati-based journalist who writes a regular column for the Cincinnati Herald. Miller, who played basketball for Morehead State University, has also been active as a radio commentator and has represented and helped market local athletes, and has been recognized by the Cincinnati Human Relations Commission and other organizations for his civic and philanthropic work.

Cincinnati State Athletic Director Theresa Check noted during the banquet that none of Cincinnati State’s five teams finished lower than second in their conference this season.

Dr. John Henderson, the interim president of Cincinnati State, applauded the performance of Cincinnati State’s teams and athletes – and said the college hopes for even more success next season.
