Two Cincinnati State soccer players earn All American honors
December 3, 2010
Two members of the Cincinnati State men’s soccer team that played in the national finals last month won All American awards Friday from the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Ashton Bennett, a forward and second-year student from Clarendon, Jamaica, was named to the Div. I All-American First Team. In his first year at Cincinnati State, Bennett was named to the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference All-Academic Team for his combined athletic and academic performance.
Cody Clark, a second-year midfielder from Bright, Indiana (East Central High School), was named to the Div. I All-American Second Team. Last year Clark was one of five players from Cincinnati State to be named to the OCCAC All Conference First Team.
Cincinnati State’s men’s team compiled a 22-3-0 record this year and won the OCCAC crown and the NJCAA regional and district championships en route to the national tournament. After winning its first two games in the national tournament, the Surge lost in the championship match Nov. 21 to Tyler (Texas) Junior College, which won the title in 2009 as well.
In the seven seasons immediately prior to 2010, Cincinnati State has produced 10 All-Americans, 32 First Team All-OCCAC players, 17 Second Team All-OCCAC players, 27 All-Region players, 5 OCCAC “Player of the Year” recipients and 3 NJCAA “Player of the Week” recipients.
