Career Interest Groups

Cincinnati State offers more than 130 associate's degree and certificate programs through four academic divisions (Business, Center for Innovative Technologies, Health & Public Safety, and Humanities & Science).

Many of our academic programs are geared toward preparation for immediate employment; others are specifically designed for students who wish to immediately transfer to a bachelor's degree program after earning an associate's degree at Cincinnati State.

To help potential students find a degree or certificate program that suits their needs and interests, we have organized our offerings by career interests. Online degrees and bachelor's bound (transfer) degrees are highlighted also.

Bachelor's Bound
The Bachelor's Bound programs prepare Cincinnati State graduates to transfer to another college or university to complete their bachelor’s degree. Associate's degree transfer programs are available for a wide range of majors at four-year colleges and universities. Earning an associate’s degree at Cincinnati State lets students take advantage of our affordable tuition rates and co-op programs. Because of academic agreements we have negotiated with regional colleges and universities, our graduates in many programs are assured that most or all of the Cincinnati State credits will transfer and apply toward their baccalaureate degree.

Business
Cincinnati State offers specialized training programs to meet the needs of a variety of businesses in fields such as accounting, financial services, marketing, management, and administration. We design each business associate's degree and certificate program in collaboration with an advisory board of professionals from Greater Cincinnati’s leading companies. All of our business degree programs include a co-op requirement to provide on-the-job experience and valuable networking opportunities.

Computers

Whether the dream is opening a boutique cake shop or working at a five-star restaurant, our experienced instructors give students the training they need. Our graduates enjoy remarkable job placement success, at venues across the country. These degree and certificate programs are offered through our nationally recognized Midwest Culinary Institute, which also provides programs in hospitality management, nutrition and dietetics, and brewing sales and marketing.

Education & Service
At Cincinnati State, we're invested in preparing students for success in education and service fields. Students of early childhood education have a internship site on campus at the Mallory Early Childhood Learning Center. In the interpreter training program, students regularly interact with members of the Deaf community throughout the area, while preparing to serve as skilled sign language interpreters in a variety of settings. Certificate programs in human services and addiction studies introduce students to career possibilities related to social services, criminal justice, and numerous other helping professions.

Engineering & Manufacturing
Greater Cincinnati has a long history as a manufacturing center. Technology has transformed this industry and other engineering-related fields, and today’s job applicants need specialized education. Cincinnati State’s engineering technology programs are leaders in offering high-quality technical education that results in high-quality jobs after graduation. Students can choose from such core disciplines as chemical, civil, construction, electrical, and mechanical engineering technologies, as well as programs in alternative energy and environmental technologies. Cincinnati State also offers a manufacturing management major, as well as a land surveying certificate program (for students with bachelor’s degrees in a related field) that’s among the best of its kind in the country.

Environment
Cincinnati State is a regional leader in preparing students for careers in environmental fields such as alternative energy as well as sustainable agriculture and landscape horticulture. Partnerships with local agencies such as the Metropolitan Sewer District and Cincinnati Water Works help to make our programs in wastewater and stormwater management among the best in the area. In addition, our construction management program prepares students to earn LEED green building certification. Students in our environmental engineering technologies programs, and in our horticulture and landscape design programs, routinely compete successfully against peers from four-year colleges in regional events.

Health & Fitness
Cincinnati State is one of southwest Ohio’s leaders in accredited allied healthcare education. Whether you’re interested in direct patient care such as nursing or occupational therapy, or excited about a job involving healthcare technologies such as an EKG technician or laboratory assistant, we have the program for you. We offer seasoned instructors and up-to-date learning labs along with clinical rotations or other experiential learning activities for most allied health programs. All of this contributes to our students’ consistently high pass rate on national and state certification exams.

As the importance placed on physical fitness has grown, Cincinnati State’s programming has kept pace. We provide instructor certification courses for programs such as Pilates, yoga, water aerobics, and fitness for special populations. We also offer versatile personal trainer and group fitness instructor certification programs that prepare students to pass national certification exams, and open doors for employment at health clubs, corporate fitness centers, aerobic studios, or recreation programs.

Our multimedia and design programs prepare students to work in exciting fields that combine creativity and technology. Our degree programs include graphic and web design as well as audio and video production.
