Frequently asked questions
What is changing?
Effective with the Summer 2010 term, the College changed its class registration policy. Students must register for classes by the last day of the previous term to avoid a $100 non-refundable late registration fee. Therefore, students must register for classes by January 31, 2011 for the Winter 2011 term classes to avoid the penalty. Another significant change is that students will no longer be able to register for classes during the second week of classes.
Who is affected?
This change affects all students.
Why is the registration policy changing?
The College has analyzed student retention data and found that those students who register for classes late have extremely low rates of success.
How can I avoid the late fee?
See your advisor early and register for classes by January 31.
Are there any exceptions to the new policy?
Yes, but very few. Workforce Development courses, flexibly scheduled courses, and co-op courses are exempt from the policy because their start and end dates do not necessarily coincide with the regular term calendar.
What are the new registration details?
- Registration beginning with the Priority 1 WEB registration period through the last day of classes in the previous term will be called On-Time Registration.
- Late Registration will begin on the day after classes end in the previous term and continue until the end of the first week of the term.
- Students who register for their first class after the last class day of the previous term will automatically be charged a $100 non-refundable late registration fee.
- Instructor’s signatures will be required to add a class during the first week of the term if the course is on-line, has met, or is full.
- No classes can be added after the first week of classes.
- A student who has attended a class but has not registered for the class by the end of the first week of classes, will not be allowed to enroll in the class.
- Students who request to add classes after the first week of the term will be provided with academic advising appointments, financial aid, and career counseling as needed. They will be directed to register for classes for the following term.
