Kristy Bailey Parrill has built Cincinnati State volleyball into a conference and region contender since starting up the program from scratch three short years ago.
In 2015 the Surge compiled a 25-13 overall record while finishing second in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference and advancing to the semifinals of the district tournament.
This followed the success of the 2014 season, which saw the Surge compile a 20-19 record against a schedule that included 20 teams ranked in the NJCAA Top 20. Cincinnati State drew attention by advancing to the winners’ bracket championship game of the district tournament.
The Surge have produced a pair of first team All-Region XII selections and four first team All-OCCAC picks under Parrill,
Building a volleyball program from scratch is an experience that Parrill brought to Cincinnati State.
While a student at Northern Kentucky University, Parrill organized a highly-competitive club volleyball program, also serving as the team’s player-coach. The experience gave Parrill broad insight to the responsibilities of coaching and developing a team as she handled the duties of scheduling, player recruiting and development, practice and game preparation, event management and fund-raising.
Parrill has also played the sport on the community college level, performing on the Owens Community College teams of 2005 and 2006. Owens, one of the power programs of NJCAA Region 12 and OCCAC champion in 11 of the past 12 seasons, won the regional title her sophomore season.
Parrill completed her BA in integrated studies at Northern Kentucky in 2012. While playing and coaching at NKU, she found time to hone her skills serving as assistant volleyball coach at Cooper High School and working as an assistant and clinician at the Northern Kentucky Junior Volleyball Club.
