About the Choir
The Cincinnati State Chorale began in the spring of 2010. Comprised of students and faculty members from a wide variety of musical backgrounds, the Chorale loves to sing repertoire equally diverse, including spirituals, musical theatre, jazz, and classical music. The Chorale recently sang the National Anthem at a Cincinnati Reds game, and sang in the World Choir Games for such distinguished guests as Bob McDonald, CEO of P&G.
About the director
Benjamin Hansen is excited to be in his 5th term with the Cincinnati State Chorale. A native of Nebraska, Hansen received his bachelor's degree from Yale, singing in "The Wiffenpoofs." He received his master's degree in voice from the Catholic University of America, and a second master's degree in conducting from The College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. Hansen was a Conducting Fellow at the Chorus America Conducting Symposium in 2010, Houston, TX. and he is the previous director of the Washington Collegium, in Washington, D.C. He has conducted such works as Howell's Requiem and Poulenc's Exultate Deo. In addition to the Chorale, he currently directs the Covenant Choir at Knox Presbyterian Church, and has a private voice and piano studio of twenty students.
