Students, faculty and staff members in the Landscape Horticulture Program recently traveled to metro Atlanta to attend the Professional Landcare Network’s 34th Annual Student Career Days competition.

Cincinnati State’s team placed 15th out of 67 from schools across the country competing in the event, which was hosted by Chattahoochee Technical College. Most teams were from universities with four-year landscape programs; of those that finished ahead of Cincinnati State, only two were from community colleges.

Among the individual highlights for Cincinnati State students:

  • Bob Emmitt placed third in both the Pest Identification and Turf and Turf Pest Identification contests.
  • Teammate Zac Christman placed second overall in the Skid Steer Competition.
  • Josh Bearman and Alex Benoit placed fifth in the Arboriculture Techniques Competition.
  • Bearman finished seventh in Small Engines.
  • First- year student McCall Dillon came in 11th in the Safety Management Competition.
  • Nikol Soluski placed 12th in Woody Plant Identification.

The Dish,” hosted by Master Chef Meg Galvin, is now in its fourth season on WKRC Local 12.

The Human Resource certificate has been redesigned. It now aligns with the requirements to take the CBES (Compensation & Benefits Employment Specialist) exam.
