Audio/Video Production (AVP)

The Audio/Video Production program at Cincinnati State prepares students to create and manipulate digital audio, video, and graphic images. Career destinations for AVP graduates include broadcast and cable television and other entertainment industries; Web and multimedia development companies; and media production departments in commercial, corporate, and industrial settings. A significant number of courses required for the degree are scheduled between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some of the required courses also are offered in the evening or on weekends.

Graduates are prepared to:

  • Apply basic skills for 2-D and 3-D software applications including Photoshop, Illustrator, and Maya
  • Operate and maintain digital audio and video equipment including cameras, microphones, cables, and computers
  • Use industry-standard software applications for digital audio and video editing, such as AVID, Final Cut Pro, After Effects, and Pro Tools
  • Use Web languages and tools, such as HTML and Flash

Graphic Design (GRD)

Students in the Graphic Design program at Cincinnati State begin their studies with emphasis on building skills in two-dimensional (2-D) art and design, both traditional and computerbased, using industry-standard software products. Later in the program, students focus on 3-D computer animation. Currently many courses required for the degree are scheduled between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some of the required courses also are offered in the evening or on weekends.

Graduates are prepared to:

  • Create 2-D vector-based and raster-based illustration and composition
  • Digitally create original art
  • Do 3-D modeling, texturing, lighting, and animation
  • Do basic video shooting, digitizing, and post-processing
  • Use 2-D and 3-D software applications, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and Maya
  • Use Web languages and tools, such as HTML and Flash

Articulation Agreements/Strong Transfer History
Graduates of the GRD program who wish to continue their education in baccalaureate programs in Digital Media, Multimedia, 3-D Animation, or other related areas should be able to make this transition easily. Formal articulation agreements with some four-year institutions are anticipated in the future.

Multimedia and Web Design (MWD)

The Multimedia and Web Design degree program prepares students to design and deliver interactive multimedia content for Web, CD, DVD, and kiosk deployment. Students gain the skills and knowledge necessary to create original digital art used to design and integrate text, images, animation, video, and other content into effective Web and interactive multimedia products. Currently a significant number of courses required for the degree are scheduled between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some of the required courses also are offered in the evening or on weekends. Students should consult frequently with their advisor for current schedule information.

Graduates are prepared to:

  • Contribute to Web and multimedia design and development teams in corporations, small businesses, public agencies, and many other work settings
  • Plan, design, implement, test, and maintain effective interactive sites and animations
  • Use industry-standard languages, including HTML, DHTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Use industry-standard tools, including Flash, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Fireworks

Design Certificate (DES)

The Design Certificate provides the opportunity to gain advanced skills in design, software applications, and problem-solving—as evidenced
through completion of a portfolio—to students who already hold a bachelor’s degree in art, design, writing, marketing, advertising or related fields. The portfolio will demonstrate the student’s readiness for employment in advertising, marketing, graphic design, and related fields through skills including:

  • Comprehensive design knowledge
  • Creative thinking techniques
  • Typographical principles
  • Color and composition theory
  • Packaging guidelines and practices
  • Interactive multimedia design applications and usability assessment

Technical and Professional Communication Certificate (TCC)

Technical and Professional Communication Certificate (TCC) The Technical and Professional Communication certificate provides opportunities to develop and expand communication skills and prepare for work in fields such as technical writing and editing, multimedia content writing and editing, and business or marketing communication. Students who complete this certificate gain experience planning, designing, and developing informational and promotional products that may be distributed through traditional print media or through multimedia channels, including websites, CDs and DVDs, online help systems, or other “new media.”

The certificate will assist individuals with prior education or experience in a technical or specialized field who want to expand their communication skills, and is also appropriate for students seeking associate’s degrees who expect to continue their education in fields such as journalism, communications, or marketing communication.

Web Design Certificate (WEBC)

Web Design Certificate (WEBC) The Web Design certificate program is ideal for individuals enrolled in a degree program or currently working in the industry seeking to update their skills to include the use of digital multimedia design tools.

Credentialing
Upon completion of the program students are prepared to take the Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) Foundations exam and earn the title of CIW Associate.
