Emergency Medical Technician—Paramedic (EMT-P)
People’s lives often depend on the quick reaction and competent care of emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics. Incidents as varied as automobile accidents, heart attacks, slips and falls, childbirth, and gunshot wounds all require immediate medical attention. EMTs and paramedics provide this vital service as they care for and transport the sick or injured to a medical facility.
The EMT-Paramedic certificate program meets the objectives of the US DOT Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic: National Standard Curriculum and is approved by the Ohio Department of Public Safety, Division of Emergency Medical Services. After successful completion of the paramedic certificate program, students are eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians cognitive and practical examinations.
Students in the EMT-Paramedic certificate program can choose one of two options when pursuing their Associate of Applied Science degree: the Management Program or the Science Program.
EMT-Paramedic—Science Program (EMTPS)
Students completing the Paramedic Science Program are prepared for careers in EMS research, EMS education, or employment in a hospital emergency department. Students interested in eventually transitioning into other allied health careers should consider the Paramedic Science Program.
EMT-Paramedic—Management Program (EMTPM)
Students completing the Paramedic Management Program are prepared to assume supervisory and administrative roles within the field of EMS.
Graduates are prepared for:
- Employment in a fire department, private ambulance service, or a hospital-based ambulance service
- Employment in a hospital emergency department
