Employment Options

Graduates are prepared to:

  • Install, maintain, monitor, troubleshoot, and upgrade computer network hardware and software.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures, such as firewalls and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).
  • Gather data to identify customer needs and use that information to identify, interpret, and evaluate system and network requirements.
  • Support local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN).
  • Deploy emerging technologies such as Voice over IP (VoIP) business communication systems.
  • Pursue industry certifications, such as the Cisco CCNA and the Comp TIA Network+ certifications.

Employment Outlook

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment opportunities for network and computer systems personnel will increase by 28 percent through 2020, which is faster than the average for all professions. The demand for skilled workers is high and should continue to grow as firms invest in newer, faster technology and mobile networks and as firms develop secure networks, support for remote access to networks, and integrated voice and data services.
