  • Take the national registry exam given by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
  • Perform as an entry-level diagnostic medical sonographer
  • Collaborate with other health care professionals to provide optimum patient care
  • Function within recognized ethical and legal standards of the profession

Graduate Starting Salary Projections

$38,000–$41,000 annually

Employment Outlook

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of diagnostic medical sonographers is expected to increase by 44% through 2020, which is much faster than the average for all professions. Since 2005, the national registry requirements have included holding an associate’s or higher degree from an accredited program.
