Stages of Advising
1. Surge Advising Session (SAS)
A mandatory group advising session for pre-admit first time freshmen. During this two hour session academic advisors will assist you in not only registering for classes, but by giving you essential information that will make your time here successful. SAS is a one-time session. If you are a returning or a transfer student move to the next circle, 1-on-1 advising. If you have questions regarding SAS feel free to call 513-569-1552. If you would like to register for a Surge Advising Session (SAS) please call 513-569-4279 or click on the SAS Registration link from the Advising Center homepage.
2. One-on-One Advising
During this meeting the student and the advisor will discuss course selections, career goals, and Cincinnati State policies and procedures. Students will also be given an option to utilize Educational Planning as a tool for course planning. Students should meet with an Academic Advisor at least once per semester.
To schedule an appointment with an Academic Advisor please call 513-569-1552.
3. Educational Planning
An available online tool located in mySERVICES that Academic Advisors and students use to plan courses for future terms. This will ensure that the proper sequence of courses is being followed. Students may choose to communicate with advisors solely through this tool, or as a supplement to one-on-one advising appointments.
4. Program Advising
Students who complete all required Academic Foundations (AF) and English as a Second Language (ESL) courses will transition away from the advising services in the Advising Center; and will begin meeting with Program Advisor within the Academic Division where their program is held.
The ultimate goal! To qualify for an associate’s degree, a student must be admitted into a degree or certificate program, complete the program requirements as identified in the audit curriculum, attain at least a 2.0 cumulative and program GPA, and petition to graduate.
