Wray & Suggs lead Surge to comeback win at IU-East Fall Tournament
Entering the final round behind 5 strokes to Columbus State, the Cincinnati State Surge shot a final round 300 to come back and win the Indiana University-East Fall Tournament by 5 strokes over their conference rival.
Sophomore All-Americans Jeff Wray & Taylor Suggs took advantage of the 6,375 yard Liberty Country Club over the two round tournament. Wray, who won the tournament, finished at 144(+4). For Wray, the sophomore from England fired rounds of 71 & 73 in route to his first victory of his collegiate career. After winning last week, Taylor Suggs finished second overall at 147 (+7) with rounds of 75 & 72.
Battling through an injured wrist, Hayden Burns shot 77 in the final round to contribute to the team's final day total. Burns bounced back after an 89 in the first round. John McQueen had consistent two day scores of 78 & 77 for a total of 155. Trent Cutlip shot 79 in both rounds of the tournament for a total of 158.
The Surge also fielded a "B" Team in the event consisting of Andres Martinez, Corey Flynn, Chad Bialecki and James Greishop. After struggling to a 356 team score in the first round, the team improved dramatically with a final round score of 324. The team was led by Martinez, who shot 80 & 81 for a toal of 161.
Winners in their last two tournaments, the Surge play host to the Surge Golf Classic at Weatherwax Golf Course on Oct. 11.
