U.S. Energy Secretary to visit Workforce Development Center
Dr. Steven Chu, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy, will visit the Evendale campus of Cincinnati State Technical and Community College today.
Dr. Chu will visit Cincinnati State’s Workforce Development Center in Evendale – not the main campus in Clifton, as announced in a DOE release sent Wednesday – to learn about the school’s workforce training efforts in renewable energy, energy audit, and sustainable building, and participate in a demonstration of a home energy audit. Their discussion is also expected to highlight the partnership that has been formed with the Greater Cincinnati Energy Alliance (GCEA.)
Following a demonstration of home energy audit technology starting at 1:15 p.m. (open to the press), Dr. Chu is expected to be joined by U.S. Rep. Steve Driehaus for a press availability around 1:30 p.m.
Dr. Chu is the first person to accept a Cabinet appointment after winning a Nobel Prize. A specialist in small-particle physics and molecular biology, he and two colleagues were awarded the 1997 Nobel Prize for Physics for their research into the use of lasers to cool and trap atoms to allow observation of their properties. This marks Dr. Chu’s second visit to Cincinnati State. He gave the 2009 commencement address at the College.
