On Apr. 16, 2020, Cincinnati State students enrolled for Spring and/or Summer classes were notified about the option to borrow one of the College's laptop computers, at no cost, on a first come, first serve basis.
Students received notification by email and text message.
Chief Information Officer Frankie Baker said about 50 students had requested computers within a few hours after the notification was released.
- The loaner laptops are equipped with software and accessories needed for online learning, but students will need a Wi-Fi connection to get to the internet.
- When students pick up their computer, they also receive information about how to get free Wi-Fi from Spectrum and information about free Cincinnati Bell Wi-Fi hot spots in Greater Cincinnati.
- Students should allow two days for form processing. During this time, the student's registration status is confirmed.
- When approved, the student will receive an “eForm Approved” message via Cincinnati State email.
- Laptops can be picked up on Tuesdays or Thursdays between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., outside the Summit Restaurant (ATLC Building, Clifton Campus). Signs will guide students to the pick-up location.
- Students must remain in their vehicle during the pick-up process. They will show their College ID or other identification to a College representative who will then place the computer in the vehicle.
The College has about 170 laptop computers to distribute, and plans are underway to obtain more computers if this supply is depleted.
The process for making laptops available was coordinated by VP of Workforce Development Amy Waldbillig and Chief of Advancement Elliott Ruther, with assistance from a task force representing Academics, Information Technology Services, Advancement, and Financial Aid.
