Construction Management students competed in national event

A student team representing Cincinnati State’s program in Civil Engineering Technology – Construction Management participated in the 2023 Residential Construction Management Competition sponsored by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). Colleges and universities from throughout the U.S. as well as other countries were part of the competition.

Students submitted their initial work electronically in December, but the final part of the competition was a live presentation during the International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas from January 31 to February 2, 2023.

The team had to prepare a construction management proposal for a single-family residential home, including drawings and details, a detailed cost estimate, a complete construction schedule, and a construction management plan.

At the conference, the team members presented their work to a judging panel of six industry professionals.

Aubrey Wade, a second-year Construction Management student, said, “Participating in the NAHB Student Competition gave me an opportunity to put the skills I’ve been learning to use, and gave me insight and experience for my future career.”

Although the Cincinnati State team didn’t win one of the top awards, faculty member Greg Kelly said the students received “glowing praise” for their presentation and for many aspects of their proposal.

“As far as I can recall, our team placed higher in this national competition than any previous Cincinnati State team,” Greg said.
