Retirement Plans
As a Cincinnati State employee, and an employee of an Ohio public institution, you will not contribute to the Federal Social Security system. Instead, our employees will contribute to a State Retirement Plan (SERS or STRS) or an Alternative Retirement Plan (ARP): 403B and/or Deferred Compensation Program 457 Plan.
Tuition Reimbursement
All full-time employees who have completed one year of continuous service to the college are eligible for tuition reimbursement. For classes taken toward a bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees.
Tuition Waiver
- Tuition Waiver: A waiver of Cincinnati State tuition is made available to employees and retirees
- Fulltime and part-time benefit-eligible employees are eligible after completing six (6) months of continuous employment.
- Retirees from fulltime employment out of SERS, STRS, or ARP plans are eligible immediately upon retirement.
- Adjuncts are eligible after completing two (2) consecutive semesters of teaching, and thereafter, teaching at least one course per semester. However, Deans have discretion in granting waivers in cases which may impact instructional needs. In such cases, the Dean shall so advise the Office of Human Resources.

EAP is a benefit program that assists employees with personal or work-related problems that may impact their job performance, health and general well-being. EAPs usually offer free and confidential assessments, short-term counseling, referrals and follow-up services for employees.

Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
The FMLA is a federal law that provides eligible employees with unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons.
Employees Eligible for FMLA Leave
- Works for a covered employer
- Has worked for the employer for at least 12 months
- Has at least 1,250 hours of service for the employer during the 12-month period preceding the leave
- Works at a location where the employer has at least 50 employees within 75 miles
- Employees seeking FMLA are required to provide at least a 30-day advance notice to the HR Department
Qualifying Reasons for FMLA Leave
- For the serious health condition of the employee
- For the birth of a child and to care for the newborn child
- For placement with the employee of a child for adoption or foster care
- To care for the employee’s spouse, child, or parent with a serious health condition
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
The ADA is a federal law that prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities and requires equal access to public facilities, programs, activities, and services.
One of the most important goals of this law is to give equal employment opportunities to qualified individuals with disabilities.
