Free signing classes are open to all

Cincinnati State’s Interpreter Training Program (ITP) offers free community signing classes on Mondays and Tuesdays in October and November on Clifton Campus, and it’s not too late to join the group.

At each class session, participants learn to sign conversational phrases, and then apply the signs through activities.

ITP Program Chair Dawn Caudill (photo below) said the free classes are a way to give back to the community and also offer a resource for those who may be interested in taking American Sign Language (ASL) classes at the College.

“About 60 people attend the two class sessions each week,” Dawn said. “We have a wonderfully diverse group of people attending the classes, but they all have one thing in common– a desire to learn to communicate with the Deaf.”

“It’s exciting to see everyone learning to sign and interact with each other,” Dawn added.

Class sessions continue through the week of Nov. 25, 2019, and newcomers are always welcome.

• Monday’s class meets from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the ATLC Auditorium (ATLC 211) on Clifton Campus
   
• Tuesday’s class meets from noon to 1 p.m. in Main 353 on Clifton Campus

Dawn said no reservations are required to attend the free classes, and it’s OK if you can’t make it to every session.
