Practical Nursing grads have a perfect record on NCLEX credentialing exam in 2023

Graduates of the Cincinnati State Great Oaks Practical Nursing Certificate (PNC) program have earned a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX credentialing exam during the first six months of 2023. A total of 29 PNC students have taken the exam this year.

Students who complete the PNC program must pass the NCLEX exam to be credentialed as Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN). The NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) is consider to be the world’s premier licensure exam for nursing.

The national average pass rate for all students who took the exam during the first three months of 2023 was 79.5%, and the average for Ohio students was 69.3%.

PNC Program Chair Barbara Ratliff said the “Next Generation NCLEX” exam, which launched in April 2023, simulates a hospital’s work setting and measures nursing candidates’ clinical judgment and decision making abilities, leading to better patient outcomes.

Barb said, “Our recent PNC graduates who took the national exam were prepared for the new exam format as a result of changes made by the program faculty. Throughout the curriculum, students had opportunities to enhance their clinical judgment, decision making, and critical thinking skills.”
