Our OSHA-compliant Hospital First Receiver class at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College’s Workforce Development Center, where hospital workers can gain critical skills in handling patients contaminated with hazardous waste and emergency response as outlined in OSHA 1910.120.
This course equips first receivers with the knowledge and practices necessary to safely manage and respond to incidents involving hazardous substances, ensuring the safety and health of both workers and patients.

This course is designed to meet OSHA training requirements for First Receivers at the Awareness and Operations Level, as described in the OSHA standard on Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER).
After completing this course, you will be better able to:
- Identify hazardous materials. (Hazard & Risk Assessment)
- Demonstrate the correct use of personal protective equipment and chemical protective clothing.
- Identify and explain decontamination.
- Explain basic chemical, and toxicological, terminology and behavior.
- Ability to function within an assigned role in the Incident Command System.
- Understand termination procedures.
- Know how to implement an Emergency Plan(s).
