Black Male Initiative organization supported cancer research
The Black Male Initiative (BMI) student organization extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported the 2024 BMI Cancer Awareness Fundraiser. A total of $650 was donated to the University of Cincinnati Barrett Cancer Research Foundation to support ongoing cancer research.
Dr. Alice Tang, Associate Professor and Clinical Program Director of the Head and Neck Cancer Fellowship, met with several BMI members prior to the check presentation on April 18, 2024. Dr. Tang expressed her gratitude for BMI’s continuing efforts to raise awareness of cancer and to support cancer research.
Participants in the presentation (photo above) were Professor Brian Hooten (BMI advisor), Dr. Alice Tang, and BMI members Landon Fairbanks, Daniel Quao, Djibril Thiam, Kaylie Osborne, and Yoshua Simms.
During their conversation, Dr. Tang learned about BMI’s diverse members and the other initiatives the organization supports. She invited the Cincinnati State students to learn more about career paths at the Barrett Center and to consider job shadowing opportunities in departments at the hospital.
BMI advisor Brian Hooten said, “The members of BMI work diligently to balance academics, employment, and community outreach, within and outside of the College, and appreciate the continued support that is provided by our College community.”
