Two students selected for All-Ohio Academic Team

Two Cincinnati State students were honored as members of the 2019 All-Ohio Community College Academic Team.

  • Accounting student Mels Mbuy (on left in photo) was selected for the First Team and received a $1,000 scholarship.
    • Mels has a GPA of 3.8 and has earned Deans List/Merit List status multiple times.
    • He serves as an officer of the Congolese Youth Community. He is also a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the International Student Organization.
    • Mels plans to attend the Univ. of Cincinnati after completing his degree at Cincinnati State and then become a Certified Public Accountant.
       
  • Nursing student Alima Oruma was selected for the Third Team and received a $250 scholarship.
    • Alima is an officer of Phi Theta Kappa and the Student Nursing Organization, and was a member of the student panel that spoke at the College Convocation in Fall.
    • She has a GPA of 3.9 and has earned Dean’s List and Merit List honors.
    • Alima plans to attend the Univ. of Cincinnati to attain a bachelor’s degree and her career goal is to become a Certified Nurse Anesthetist;

A ceremony to recognize this year’s award winners was held Apr. 25, 2019, in the Atrium of the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus.

Students were selected for the Academic Teams based on their academic excellence, leadership, and community service.

The All-Ohio Academic Team program is sponsored by the Ohio Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa academic honor society.

Honda of America Manufacturing, Inc., helped sponsor the recognition event.
